We are thrilled to welcome Jaime Hamil, MPH, DrPH, who joins the faculty of Northwestern University Department of Medical Social Sciences (MSS) as a Research Assistant Professor in the Division of Implementation Science.
Jaime holds a Doctor of Public Health in Public Health Leadership from the University of Illinois Chicago’s School of Public Health. She also earned a Master of Public Health in Behavioral Sciences and Health Education from Emory University’s Rollins School of Public Health. In addition, Jamie completed a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and French with a minor in Chemistry at the University of Denver. Originally from Steamboat Springs, Colorado, Jaime moved to Chicago in 2013 after completing her MPH. She joined the Center for Community Health at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine as a Research Project Coordinator, contributing to a national health equity and quality improvement initiative. In 2015, she transitioned to the Mothers and Babies (MB) Program, where she began working with Darius Tandon, PhD, on perinatal mental health prevention research. She leads large-scale intervention adaptation, implementation, and evaluation efforts. In 2020, she began a Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) program in Public Health Leadership at the University of Illinois Chicago, pursuing advanced training in implementation science and systems change while continuing her full-time work with the MB team. She completed her DrPH in May 2025.
Jaime’s research applies implementation science to strengthen the delivery, scale-up, and sustainment of mental health and preventive interventions in community, public health, and early childhood systems. She specializes in perinatal mental health, focusing on adapting, implementing, and evaluating evidence-based interventions across the perinatal and early parenting periods. Her work uses implementation frameworks to assess readiness, tailor implementation strategies, and apply approaches such as implementation mapping and implementation facilitation to support adoption of interventions in diverse settings.
A core focus of Jaime’s work is expanding access to mental health support through digital innovations, including MB Virtual Groups (MB-VG), MB-TXT, and the online MB (eMB) program with coaching. She also leads cultural and contextual adaptations of interventions for immigrant, Indigenous, and parent communities, including fathers and other caregiver communities to ensure they are relevant, feasible, and equitable. Her research uses qualitative and mixed method approaches to understand implementation barriers, develop multilevel strategies, and build sustainable support for organizations and systems. She has led multi-state and Tribal partnerships to scale the MB program and strengthen training, consultation, and implementation infrastructure nationwide.
Jaime chose MSS for its nationally recognized strengths in implementation science, its transdisciplinary culture, and its deep commitment to community-engaged research that advances health equity. “Above all, I’m grateful for the opportunity to grow, collaborate, and contribute within such a supportive, inspiring, and forward-thinking department,” Jaime said. Welcome, Jaime Hamil!
